What’s in Season This Month
This month brings a fresh wave of produce, including Cabbage, Cauliflower, Celeriac, Grapefruit, Lettuce (coming in), Onion, Pak Choi, Pepper, Pineapple, Potatoes, Pomegranate, Purple sprouting broccoli, Radicchio, Radish (coming in), Rhubarb, Spinach, Spring greens, Spring onion, Watercress.
Asparagus
Asparagus – You know spring has officially sprung with the arrival of the Asparagus kicking off around St George’s Day (April 23rd) and running for just six to eight weeks. Asparagus is an earthy, green vegetable grown during the spring. It’s a herbaceous perennial plant, and the parts we eat are actually young shoots of a lily plant. It takes patience to grow, as it can take up to four years to produce edible spears. Asparagus spears should be firm and straight with pointed tips.
Radishes
Radishes – Radishes are a prime, fast-growing April seasonal vegetable, marking the start of the British salad season from mid-April through October. As a crisp, peppery staple of spring, they are best eaten fresh in salads or roasted. They are nutritious, low-calorie, and often available with leafy tops still attached.
Jersey Royal New Potatoes
Jersey Royal New Potatoes – Did you know, Jersey Royals grow exclusively in the rich, fertile earth of Jersey Island, and cannot be given their name if grown anywhere else? These small springtime spuds are beautifully nutty and buttery. Jersey Royals lend themselves brilliantly to salads or paired with fresh spring flavours.

January 2026
Fresh Starts, Seasonal Quality
As we step into 2026, it’s the perfect time for fresh beginnings — and fresh produce. While the colder months bring shorter days, they also deliver some of the year’s most dependable and flavour-packed fruit and vegetables, ideal for retailers, caterers, and foodservice professionals alike.
What’s in Season This Month
January is all about robust winter staples and bright citrus flavours:
Citrus Fruits
Citrus Fruits – Oranges, clementines, lemons and limes are at their best, offering excellent quality, strong colour and consistent sizing.
Root Vegetables
Root Vegetables – Carrots, parsnips, swede, beetroot and turnips continue to perform well, with good availability and reliable shelf life.
Brassicas
Brassicas – Savoy cabbage, white cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and sprouts remain key lines, well suited to winter menus.
Leafy Greens
Leafy Greens – Kale, spinach and leeks are in strong supply and particularly popular at this time of year.
Market Notes
January is a transitional month for produce, where availability is shaped largely by the UK growing season. During this period, salad crops and many fruit lines are not naturally in season in the UK, so these products are sourced from carefully selected overseas growers. Importing allows us to maintain year-round availability while still meeting expected standards for quality, freshness and consistency.
In contrast, the UK winter growing season remains strong for root vegetables, brassicas and hardy greens such as cavolo nero, which continue to be harvested locally. These crops benefit from cooler conditions, developing good flavour, structure and storage life, making them particularly well suited to winter use. By combining imported produce where necessary with UK-grown seasonal lines wherever possible, we are able to offer a balanced, reliable range that reflects natural seasonality while supporting continuity of supply throughout the winter months.
Looking Ahead
As we move through the month, we’ll begin to see early signs of the new season on the horizon, while continuing to focus on dependable winter produce that delivers value, freshness and performance. If you’d like advice on availability, seasonal substitutions or forward planning for the months ahead, our team is always happy to help.
Wishing all our customers a fresh and successful start to the year.
